Gianrico Carofiglio (Bari 1961),
magistrato e scrittore, dopo numerose pubblicazioni giuridiche e di settore esordisce nel 2002 nella narrativa con Testimone inconsapevole, pubblicato da Sellerio, oggi alla cinquantottesima edizione. Il romanzo, che introduce il personaggio dell’avvocato Guido Guerrieri, incontra l’immediato favore dei lettori e dei critici ottenendo diversi riconoscimenti riservati alle opere prime, tra cui il Premio del Giovedì “Marisa Rusconi”, il Premio Rhegium Iulii, il Premio Città di Cuneo e il Premio Città di Chiavari.
Sempre con protagonista Guerrieri, per Sellerio seguono nel 2003 Ad occhi chiusi (Premio Lido di Camaiore, Premio delle Biblioteche di Roma e “Miglior noir internazionale dell’anno 2007″ in Germania secondo una giuria di librai e giornalisti), e nel 2006 Ragionevoli dubbi (Premio Fregene e Premio Viadana nel 2007, Premio Tropea nel 2008).
Nel 2004 da Testimone inconsapevole e Ad occhi chiusi vengono tratti due film tv, prodotti da Palomar. Nello stesso anno Rizzoli pubblica il romanzo Il passato è una terra straniera (Premio Bancarella 2005), da cui è tratto l’omonimo film di Daniele Vicari interpretato da Elio Germano e Michele Riondino.
Nel 2007 Carofiglio, con il fratello Francesco, pubblica per Rizzoli il graphic novel Cacciatori nelle tenebre (Premio Martoglio). Escono inoltre per Sellerio il saggio L’arte del dubbio, e per emons la versione in audiolibro di Testimone inconsapevole, con la voce dello stesso autore. Dopo il successo di questa prima pubblicazione, tutti i romanzi della serie dedicata a Guido Guerrieri vengono ripresi in audiolibro e sono disponibili nel cofanetto Tutte le storie dell’avvocato Guerrieri (emons 2012).
Nel 2008 Carofiglio ottiene il Bremen Prize dalla radiotelevisione della città-stato di Brema e il Premio Grinzane Cavour Noir. È inoltre per mesi in testa alle classifiche di vendita con Né qui né altrove, primo romanzo nella storia della casa editrice Laterza. Segue poi il dialogo Il paradosso del poliziotto (Nottetempo 2009).
Nel gennaio 2010 torna l’avvocato Guerrieri nel nuovo romanzo Le perfezioni provvisorie (Sellerio). Il libro, che rimane per otto settimane al primo posto assoluto nelle classifiche di vendite, con quindici edizioni e una tiratura totale di 450.000 copie, ottiene il Premio Selezione Campiello. A maggio Rizzoli pubblica Non esiste saggezza, una raccolta di racconti che si aggiudica il Premio Chiara e arriva in pochi mesi a quindici edizioni, con una tiratura di oltre 225.000 copie. A ottobre, sempre per Rizzoli, esce quindi La manomissione delle parole, una riflessione sul potere della lingua e sulle lingue del potere e della sopraffazione, attraverso l’analisi di cinque parole chiave del lessico civile: vergogna, giustizia, ribellione, bellezza, scelta. Sette edizioni, con una tiratura di oltre 160.000 copie.
Nel mese di ottobre 2011 esce per Rizzoli il romanzo Il silenzio dell’onda, finalista al Premio Strega 2012. Con una narrazione serrata e struggente sui padri e i figli, la mancanza e le assenze e la fragilità degli uomini, Gianrico Carofiglio regala ai lettori un nuovo, indimenticabile personaggio.
L’ultima pubblicazione è del febbraio 2013. Insieme a Massimo Carlotto e Giancarlo De Cataldo, Carofiglio è autore della raccolta Cocaina (Einaudi Stile Libero), al cui interno pubblica il racconto “La velocità dell’angelo”.

Gianrico Carofiglio (Bari 1961)
has been for years an anti-Mafia prosecutor in Bari, main town of the southern region of Puglia, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. He has been involved with investigations and trials concerning corruption, organized crime and the traffic in human beings. In 2007-2008 he was advisor of the anti-Mafia Committee in the Italian Parliament in Rome and he has been Senator with the Democratic Party from 2008 to 2013, contributing to the anti-Mafia Committee’s activities. He is considered one of the major specialists in investigation techniques referring to the organized crime and an expert of psychology applied to investigation. He has written and published several articles and essays in this specific field.
A successful novelist as well, Carofiglio published his first novel Testimone inconsapevole (Involuntary Witness, 2002), with the Italian publishing house Sellerio, introducing a defense lawyer as the main character, Guido Guerrieri. The book became an immediate bestseller, obtained several literary awards for first novel, and has been constantly reprinted, reaching now its fifty-eighth reprint. Three more pluri-awarded novels followed with Guido Guerrieri as the main character: Ad occhi chiusi (A Walk in the Dark, 2003); Ragionevoli dubbi (Reasonable Doubts, 2006); and Le perfezioni provvisorie (Temporary Perfections, 2010), Campiello Award Selection and Number One Bestseller for eight weeks, with 450.000 copies in print. The whole series is available on audio books read by the author himself. Two tv-movies have also been developed from Involuntary Witness and A Walk in the Dark.
In 2004 a new novel has been published by Rizzoli, Il passato è una terra straniera (The Past is a Foreign Country), Bancarella Award in 2005 (assigned for the first time in 1953 to Ernest Hemingway, for The Old Man and the Sea). The Past is a Foreign Country became an international movie produced by Fandango in 2008, Best Film and Best Actor at the Miami Film Festival. In 2007 Gianrico Carofiglio published an essay with Sellerio, L’arte del dubbio (The Art of the Doubt), and, together with his brother Francesco, a graphic novel with Rizzoli, Cacciatori nelle tenebre (Hunters in Darkness), which obtained the Martoglio Award. In 2008 Carofiglio received the Bremen Prize and the Grinzane Cavour Noir Award. He published with Laterza Né qui né altrove (Neither Here Nor Elsewhere), first novel in the publishing house history, at the top of the best seller lists for months. In 2010 Rizzoli published the collection of short stories Non esiste saggezza (There is No Wisdom, Chiara Award, 225.000 copies in print), and La manomissione delle parole (Manumitting Words, 160.000 copies in print), a literary essay about the power of words, focusing on five key words taken from civil lexicon: shame, justice, rebellion, beauty and choice. These books have been followed by the longed-for novel Il silenzio dell’onda (The Silence of the Wave, 2011), shortlisted at Strega Award 2012.
