The other Dora
It is the story of a love affair in the dark age of dictatorships and racial persecution in Europe, but also the story of a woman, Dora Levi, who at the age of sixteen is forced to abandon the Jewish religion to profess Christianity. In a way, she becomes a new person, a new believer, who, while remaining a ‘Sunday Christian’ for a long time, will eventually decide to commit herself to teaching the Catholic religion to children. Yet Dora will continue to pray to her Jewish father and fervent nationalist, who died in 1944, turning spiritually to Israel, according to the Jewish religion in which she had been immersed until her adolescence. Is this a symptom of inconsistency?
