Yanez

The last pirate of the Malay Archipelago—the fiercest and most ruthless—has died. The Dayaks of Borneo called him Sandokan. The Portuguese nobleman Yanez de Gomera, his friend and companion in adventure, retired after a long life of raiding to the tranquility of his coffee plantation on the island of Celebes. It was there that one day, almost by chance, a copy of Emilio Salgari’s *The Tiger of Malaysia* fell into his hands. As he read, he made a startling discovery: those pages spoke of him, of Sandokan, of Miss Marianna. But they told a story completely different from the one preserved in his memory. To set the record straight, Yanez takes up his pen and, in his memory, sets sail one last time across the seas of Indonesia. Amid storms and battles, Salgari’s myth is reborn, rewritten by the man who truly lived it: the revenge of a fictional character who rebels against his author, only to embrace his ill-fated greatness in the end.
