Io vi maledico
"I curse you" is written on the marble plaque that an Ilva worker in Taranto wanted to put on the street under his house. And "I curse you," says the daughter of the entrepreneur who killed himself strangled by bank usury. These are two of the stories that make up the choral portrait of a bewildered country. Written in 2012, long before politics took the form it has today, I Curse You transforms real news stories into exemplary narratives, and captures at the moment in which they arise all the signs that would soon turn into protest. The voices of the voiceless, the looks and words of a changing country. In the introduction to the stories, politics is asked to listen to these voices. If it had done so in time, History would have been different. A book that anticipated our days, written with words as hard as stone. Or like truth. The only antidote to the anger of those who are tired of not being heard. Io vi maledico is now republished by Einaudi in the Super ET series.
