“Romanzo Criminale” Makes Its World Premiere as an Opera
Following the extraordinary success of the novel, the film, and the TV series, Giancarlo De Cataldo’s famous saga—inspired by the Banda della Magliana—is taking the opera world by storm. Commissioned by the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in collaboration with the Fondazione Musica per Roma, the new opera features Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani, who wrote the music and conducts the orchestra, with a libretto by De Cataldo himself.
The Production and TV Broadcast
Directed by Massimo Popolizio, the production features an exceptional cast including Vanessa Goikoetxea (Patrizia), Anthony Ciamaritaro (Dandi), Matteo Desole (Scialoia), Toni Nežić (Terribile), William Hernandez (Bufalo), and Alberto Petracca (Freddo), accompanied by the Orchestra and Chorus of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
Thanks to Rai Cultura, the event will be broadcast live on Rai 3 from Florence on Friday, October 23, at 9:20 p.m., offering the general public the opportunity to experience the world premiere in prime time (with a rebroadcast on Sunday, November 1, at 8:00 a.m. on Rai 5).
“An opera is the heavenly union of poetry, song, stage action, and orchestral colors. We embark on this journey with great enthusiasm.”
— Nicola Piovani
