Rome, the 1970s, heroin rages like a disease among young people. While young people are dying and the Magliana Gang is preparing to take control of the drug market, a policeman who is too intelligent to be satisfied with the official truth begins to ask uncomfortable questions.

“Durante, Durante... You'd be a good cop if only you'd get your head straight. You need to be careful in our line of work. Careful! How many times have I told you that? Yeah. Careful. Who knows. Maybe he was right. Maybe there was no place for someone like him in the institutions.”

The economic boom has lost momentum and the consequences of the crisis are increasingly evident. Crime is becoming more organized and political conflict is growing. Italy is entering a period fraught with tension, but also rich in enthusiasm and creativity. The streets are colored by a generation that wants to change the world to the rhythm of rock music. For those in power, it is a provocation. A challenge. Above all, an opportunity to be exploited. When asked to unofficially investigate the overdose death of a 20-year-old woman, Deputy Commissioner Paco Durante realizes that there is more to the spread of heroin than simple economic interest. But every time he gets close to the truth, it vanishes before his eyes. He is hindered by invisible hands that destroy evidence, silence uncomfortable voices, and rewrite history. Thus, amid chases, false leads, and social evenings—where show business personalities, spies, cops, and left-wing intellectuals cross paths—his investigation will continue for years. Until it reaches an unexpected, dramatic conclusion.
