Niccolò Ammaniti

Niccolò Ammaniti, born and based in Rome, made his literary debut in 1995 with the novel Branchie. He is one of the most widely translated Italian authors. His major works include Fango (1996), Ti prendo e ti porto via (1999), I'm Not Scared (Io non ho paura, 2001 – Viareggio Prize), As God Commands (Come Dio comanda, 2006 – Strega Prize), Let the Party Begin (Che la festa cominci, 2009), Me and You (Io e te, 2010), Il momento è delicato (2012), Anna (2015) La vita intima (2023 – Viareggio-Rèpaci Prize) and Il custode (The Keeper, 2026). In 2014, he edited the anthology Figuracce, contributing the story Marco Risi contro la Maga della Maglianella.

Five films have been adapted from his books, directed by acclaimed filmmakers such as Marco Risi, Gabriele Salvatores, and Bernardo Bertolucci. In 2014, Ammaniti directed the documentary The Good Life. His TV debut came in 2018 with Il miracolo, an original Sky series for which he was showrunner, co-writer, and co-director. The series received the Series Con Award. In 2021, he created, directed, and wrote Anna, based on his novel of the same name.

In 2017, he was awarded an honorary degree in Philology, Literature, and History by the University of Foggia.
